Sadaqah

Sadaqah is voluntary charity given purely for the sake of Allah. Unlike Zakat, it has no minimum, no fixed rate and no set time — it can be given by anyone, at any moment, in any amount. A small sum given sincerely can change a family’s day, and the reward for it is written for you long after the giving is done.

The Blessing of Giving Sadaqah

“Charity does not decrease wealth.” (Sahih Muslim)

The Prophet ﷺ taught that even a smile is charity, that removing something harmful from a path is charity, and that a single date given in sincerity is never small in the sight of Allah. Sadaqah purifies wealth, softens the heart and protects the giver. Through Viva Palestina Malaysia, your Sadaqah becomes food on a table in Gaza, medicine in a clinic, or a school bag for a child who has lost everything.

What is the difference between Sadaqah and Zakat?

Both are forms of giving, but they work differently:

  • Zakat is obligatory. It is due from every eligible Muslim whose wealth exceeds the Nisab for a full lunar year, at a fixed rate of 2.5%, and may only be given to eight defined categories of recipient.
  • Sadaqah is voluntary. There is no minimum amount, no threshold and no fixed time. It can be given to anyone in need, including family members, and it can take non-financial forms such as time, skill or kindness.

Giving Sadaqah does not replace your Zakat obligation, and paying Zakat does not prevent you from giving Sadaqah.

What forms can Sadaqah take?

Sadaqah is far broader than money alone:

  • A financial donation of any size
  • Providing food or water to someone in need
  • Sponsoring a specific need, such as a medical kit or a child’s school supplies
  • Sadaqah Jariyah — ongoing charity such as a water well, whose reward continues after the giving
  • Giving your time, knowledge or skill to help others
  • A kind word, a smile, or removing harm from someone’s path

How does your Sadaqah help Palestine?

Sadaqah given through Viva Palestina Malaysia is directed to the areas of greatest need across our programmes:

  • Emergency food parcels and hot meals for displaced families
  • Clean water access and water infrastructure
  • Medical supplies and support for hospitals and clinics
  • Education support for children whose schooling has been interrupted
  • Shelter, bedding and winter essentials
