Education & Livelihoods

An entire generation of Palestinian children has lost years of schooling. Schools have been damaged or repurposed as shelters, teachers displaced, and families who once earned a living now have no work at all. Education and Livelihoods restores both — classrooms for children, and the tools and training that let parents provide again. It is the difference between surviving a crisis and recovering from one.

The Blessing of Giving Knowledge & Dignity

“When a person dies, their deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for them.” (Sahih Muslim)

Beneficial knowledge is named explicitly among the deeds that outlive us. A child taught to read will read for sixty years. A parent given the means to earn will feed their household without needing aid at all. Emergency relief keeps people alive; education and livelihoods give them a future to be alive for.

Why livelihoods matter as much as relief

Aid saves lives, but it cannot be the permanent state of a community. Livelihood support does something relief cannot:

  • It restores dignity — earning is not the same as receiving
  • It reduces long-term dependence on aid
  • It circulates money within the local economy, supporting other families in turn
  • It keeps children in school, because families are not forced to send them to work
  • It builds resilience, so the next shock is survivable
